The 6-Layer Imprint: How Imora Twins Actually Work

Imora Team·2026-03-10·4 min read

The problem with generic AI

Most AI chatbots sound the same. They're helpful, polite, and completely generic. That's fine for a search engine replacement, but it's terrible for representing a real person.

When someone talks to your AI twin, they should feel like they're getting your perspective, not a generic AI response with your name on it.

The six-layer Imprint

Every Imora twin is powered by your Imprint - a deep identity model built across six distinct layers, each capturing a different dimension of who you are:

Layer 1: How You Decide

Your core beliefs, principles, and trade-offs. What do you stand for? What do you prioritise under pressure? A business coach who believes in radical transparency will give different advice than one who prioritises diplomacy.

Layer 2: What You Know

Your knowledge and expertise. This includes both what you know and what you don't - a good twin should acknowledge the boundaries of its creator's expertise rather than making things up.

Layer 3: What You Do

Your role, your audience, your domain. How you operate in context shapes how your twin communicates - a therapist asks questions, a coach gives directives, a tutor explains step by step.

Layer 4: How You Think

Your reasoning style and problem-solving approach. Do you think in frameworks? Do you start with first principles? Do you prefer analogies? This layer captures how you arrive at conclusions, not just what you conclude.

Layer 5: How You Communicate

Your tone, vocabulary, humour, and conversational patterns. Your twin doesn't just know the right answer - it delivers it the way you would.

Layer 6: Experience Bank

Real stories, case studies, and examples from your career. Your twin backs up its reasoning with things that actually happened.

Why six layers?

Separating your Imprint into independent layers lets you:

  • Edit one dimension without affecting others - update your knowledge without changing your reasoning style
  • Version and rollback - every layer change creates a snapshot you can revert to
  • A/B test - try different communication styles and see which resonates with your audience
  • Compose - mix layers from different contexts for different use cases

From Imprint to Twin

Once your Imprint is built, you create twins in seconds. Each twin is a lightweight lens - same Imprint, different audience. A client-facing twin, a team twin, a mentoring twin. All powered by the same core identity model.

Compilation

At runtime, the six layers of your Imprint are compiled into a single system prompt that guides the twin's behaviour. This compilation step is where the magic happens - it weaves your decision-making, knowledge, context, reasoning, communication style, and real examples into a coherent personality that feels authentic.

The compiled prompt is cached for performance but recompiled whenever you update any layer.

What sits beneath the layers

The six layers are the input. What emerges from them is something deeper.

The Reasoning Fingerprint is a proprietary ten-dimension model of how you think. It captures your risk tolerance, decision speed, collaboration style, integrity weighting, innovation bias, conflict approach, detail orientation, time horizon, communication directness, and emotional reasoning. Unlike a personality quiz, it's not self-reported. It emerges from how you interact with your twin and how you respond during monthly calibration sessions. The result is a precise model of your thinking patterns that keeps your twin reasoning like you, not just sounding like you.

Connected Intelligence is a deep knowledge model that maps the relationships between your experiences, your decisions, and your reasoning patterns. Where the six layers capture individual dimensions of who you are, Connected Intelligence links them together. When you describe a career decision, it connects that experience to the values that drove it, the reasoning pattern you applied, and the knowledge you drew on. This is why a twin can handle questions its creator has never explicitly addressed - it draws on the same web of connections you would. Available on Pro and above.

The layers are what you build. The Reasoning Fingerprint and Connected Intelligence are what the system learns.

What's next

We're experimenting with automatic layer refinement based on calibration feedback. When users rate interactions, we can identify which layer needs adjustment and suggest changes. Monthly calibration sessions keep your Imprint evolving as you do. More on that soon.
